ReAL Edgemere CLT

ReAL Edgemere CLT was formed by local leaders to advocate and create new, permanently affordable homeownership opportunities in Edgemere, a BIPOC neighborhood on the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens that had been devastated by Hurricane Sandy.  After a community planning process, the ReAl Edgemere CLT was chosen as the sole finalist in a Request for Expressions of Interest issued by the City’s Housing Department to redevelop 62 vacant lots as two-family homes, one commercial space and open spaces. The land will be owned by the newly formed Community Land Trust.  ReALEdgemere CLT will engage community residents, many who live in public housing, to create a more just, equitable, and resilient Edgemere through a robust and inclusive community planning process focused on economic and environmental sustainability.  They will conduct community outreach and education, develop strong local leadership and create an active and engaged board representing the three core community land trust constituencies: residents, community members, and advisors.  With CCF’s support, the CLT hopes to program several active open spaces and community facilities and to advance the development of the commercial and residential lots.
